After joining the Vagabonds gang, you will receive the Prison Break quest, during which you must free prisoners held on the ship HMS Dredge. However, you may encounter a bug that will prevent you from completing the quest and the entire Vagabonds storyline. On this page of the guide, we have described what this bug is, why you cannot free the prisoners on the ship and how to avoid the bug.

What causes the bug?

It's quite easy to get this bug if you follow Sebastian and Johnny's advice and try to solve the quest silently - Fallout London: Why cant I release the prisoners on the ship? - Technical issues - Fallout London Guide

It's quite easy to get this bug if you follow Sebastian and Johnny's advice and try to solve the quest silently. There are two entrances to HMS Dredge - front and rear. To get to the rear entrance from the outside, you must climb the brown pipe mooring the machine, jump to the outer deck, and then go through the back door.

When entering the ship through the back door, you won't get the next quest objective - you will only receive it by passing through the front door - Fallout London: Why cant I release the prisoners on the ship? - Technical issues - Fallout London Guide

When entering the ship through the back door, you won't get the next quest objective - you will only receive it by passing through the front door. The next objective is to eliminate all the guards - if you do it before receiving the objective, the quest will get locked. The game will expect you to kill all guards who are already dead. Because of this, you cannot interact with the terminal that opens the cells. This means you can't free the prisoners, you can't blow up the ship because the door to the hold where you have to plant the bombs will also remain locked, and you can't complete the Vagabonds questline because this quest is mandatory.

How to fix the bug?

If you have encountered this bug, there are two possible solutions that will allow you to complete the quest. They are:

  1. Loading a previous save from before getting rid of all the guards. The game should create an autosave when you board the ship - load it, exit the ship and enter again through the front entrance, and the quest should work as it should,
  2. Approach the front entrance before taking out all the guards. You will receive a new objective when you approach the front entrance, even when you are inside the ship - as long as one of the guards is alive, you should be able to complete the objective and continue the quest. One of the guards is waiting on the upper deck, so you can save him for last.
