Fallout: London is an extensive total conversion mod for the game Fallout 4, with its size comparable to a large one expansion. The mod was created by an independent Team Folon, composed of both hobbyists and professional developers, and work on it began in 2019. The mod is available for free.
Plot
Fallout: London takes us to the post-apocalyptic universe of the Fallout series. As the title suggests, the authors decided to move the action to the city of London. Thanks to this, players can see for the first time what the Old Continent looks like after the nuclear war that turned most of the world into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The story in the mod begins in 2237, thus between the events of the first and second installment of the series.
Open world
For the purposes of the Fallout: London mod the authors have prepared a vast open world, the size of which can be compared to the interconnected maps from Fallout 4 and the Far Harbor expansion. It covers the territory stretching from Westminster to the outskirts of Bromley. Although there are no traces of the activities of the Vault-Tec company, whose tentacles did not reach Great Britain, in the ruined city we can find a variation on the Vaults. They are significantly different from American shelters.
Factions
The creators of Fallout: London argue that the factions well known to the series' fans could not reach the Old Continent. Instead, new groups were created in London, which we have the opportunity to get to know better during the game:
- The Gentry are a hard-line group composed of descendants of pre-war aristocracy and politicians to whom ordinary citizens must pay tithes in exchange for nominal protection.
- Tommies is a paramilitary organization in the employ of Gentry who may hold the key to the city's future.
- 5th Column is a resistance movement proclaiming the need to burn the world and reborn it from the ashes, which is gaining more popularity, especially among representatives of the lower social classes.
- Camelot refers to the Knights of the Round Table. Its members, forced to operate underground, want to overthrow the aristocracy and replace it with a republic and provide voting rights to all citizens.
- Isle of Dogs Syndicate are criminals who live in luxury thanks to trading, collecting garbage from the city, and intimidating the inhabitants with other brutal methods of operation.
- The Vagabonds are the mortal enemies of the syndicate who will stop at nothing to exact revenge on them for the murder of their leader. Under Gaunt's rule, they are trying to become a less brutal and more civilized version of their adversaries.
- Angel is an organization whose existence has not even been confirmed. Some consider them an urban legend, others - descendants of pre-war Ministry of Science workers, while others see in them a kind of "Big Brother" who rules London from behind the scenes.
Gameplay
The gameplay in Fallout: London is based on the pillars established by Fallout 4. During the game, we explore the game world and complete quests that push the plot forward, as well as spend time on side missions and activities, developing our character as we progress.
On our way, we often have to fight against opponents. The mod places greater emphasis on the use of melee weapons than in the main series. It also introduces a lot of weapons assembled by the residents of London from scrap, elements of retrofuturistic gear from the time of the Great War, or even weapons and armor inspired by World War II commandos, and even medieval knights.
As for the opponents, we primarily fight against humans. Due to the fact that FEV (Forced Evolutionary Virus) did not reach London in any form, there are no super mutants or deathclaws to be found here.
Technical aspects
Fallout: London requires both the base game Fallout 4 and all of its expansions to run. The mod also requires to create a new save. Some dialogues in the mod have been voiced, but this does not apply to the main character, whom we will not hear during the game.
