Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a remake of Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, a farming RPG from 2004. It was developed by Marvelous.

Plot

Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is set in the Forgotten Valley, a beautiful fertile land, where the main character moves after inheriting a farm founded by their father and his friend. We must run and expand our farm, meet the valley's other inhabitants and take active part in the life of the local community.

Mechanics

Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a third-person game. The game starts with creating a character, choosing their gender and appearance.

Life in the valley goes on in accordance to the seasons, the day-and-night cycle and the weather. Our main duty is running the farm, raising various animals (like chickens and cows) and cultivating the land. If we so wish, we can interbreed animals and plants, creating new unique species. Over time we gain resources used to expand our farm (by creating or upgrading buildings), meaning it starts bringing much higher income.

Labor's not all there is to life, so there are plenty of activities awaiting us in the moments of downtime, such as cooking, fishing and treasure hunting at the local archaeological site. Joining the local community is also rather important; getting to meet the valley's residents, participating in events and festivities, and even searching for a potential love interest and creating a family. One day our child will grow up and take over the farm... or leave the valley to pursue their own dreams.

Compared to the original game, the remake contains new content. It introduces entirely new events, festivals, new recipes, plants and photo mode.

Technical aspects

Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life features heavily enhanced visuals. Still, the game retains the original's cartoonish artstyle.
