The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark is a point-and-click adventure game developed by independent Irish studio Spooky Doorway. The game is a sequel to The Darkside Detective, released a few years earlier. Once again, we play the role of Francis McQueen, a detective investigating paranormal phenomena in the American town of Twin Lakes.
Plot
The action of A Fumble in the Dark takes place immediately after the events from the first part of the game. Once again we find ourselves in the town of Twin Lakes, a place haunted by supernatural powers. The residents of the town, however, have no idea about them thanks to the efforts of the Darkside Division, a special police department protecting them from the supernatural forces. The Division is made up of Detective Francis McQueen and his assistant, Patrick Dooley. After the events shown in the previous part, Dooley mysteriously disappears. He ends up in another dimension from where come the mysterious forces plaguing the city. Detective McQueen's task is to rescue his companion and solve six supernatural criminal cases. While investigating, he will have the opportunity to visit an amusement park, a retirement home and even Ireland. Each case is a separate story loosely connected to the others. Like the first part, A Fumble in the Dark does not take itself too seriously and contains a large dose of humour.
Mechanics
The gameplay remains unchanged in comparison to its predecessor. This is a classic point-and-click adventure game where you collect items, talk to NPCs and solve puzzles. The game features six chapters, each of which is a unique investigation.
Game modes
A Fumble in the Dark is a single player game.
Technical aspects
Graphically, the game does not differ from its predecessor. Characters and backgrounds were made with the use of pixel art technique. The music composer was changed. Instead of Ben Prunty, Thomas O'Boyle is responsible for the audio layer.
